Other Special Award recipients for 2003:
• Teacher of the Year -– Lou Guzzi of
the Experienced Golf Center, a long-time Section member who was commended as an
effective teacher of both beginning golfers and accomplished players.
• Junior Golf Leader Award – Will
Reilly of the Twining Valley Golf Club, who is involved in working with programs
at his club, with inner-city children and as a mentor of junior golfers who have
gone on to enter the golf business.
• Assistant Professional of the Year –
Andy Watters of Overbrook Golf Club, who has served the Philadelphia Assistants'
Organization in several capacities, including president.
• Horton Smith Education Award – Lori
VanSickle of Dupont Country Club, a Certified Master Professional and a previous
winner of the award.
• Golf Salesperson of the Year – Tom
Craig of Titleist, described as "a huge supporter of the golf professionals
in the Section and in particular a huge supporter of assistants in the
Section."
• Merchandizer of the Year – John
Pillar of Woodloch Springs Country Club (resorts), David Elliott of Spring Mill
Country Club (private clubs) and Damon Kepczynski of Scotland Run Golf Club
(public clubs).
Dave Seeman, former assistant at Wilmington
Country Club and the new head professional at White Clay Creek, received the
Arthur W. Brosius Award presented to an assistant professional selected by his
peers for his playing ability and personal traits.
Cara Swinden of Meadia Heights Golf Club
was announced as the recipient of the Acushnet Apprentice Scholarship.
